Philip Kamin picked up a camera for the first time in August, 1978 and through Phil Collins, instantly became tour photographer for Genesis. His work met with instant success and his name spread throughout the United Kingdom’s rock ‘n roll circuit.
What set Philip’s work apart from many industry photographers was that he never sold his photographs to newspapers, magazines or photo agencies. Philip built his solid reputation by touring and selling his work directly to the bands he photographed, the band's managers, their public relations firms, record companies or the band's merchandisers.
In addition to Genesis, Philip has worked with Paul McCartney & Wings, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Bob Dylan, Phil Collins, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Mick Jagger, The Clash, AC/DC, Rush, Queen, King Crimson, Van Halen, Motorhead, Roxy Music, Bill Bruford, Black Sabbath, The Cars and John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd's Blues Brothers to name a few. Philip’s last tour was with Genesis in 1984. Philip did one more shoot in May of 1985 for Madonna.
Philip's work received such critical acclaim that he formed Philip Kamin PublishingInc. in 1982. The company produced full color, illustrated books which documented the tours of many of the above mentioned groups. Those books were sold across the United States, England, Australia, Canada, Europe (France, Germany, Netherlands, Italy) and Japan.
There are always three or four very familiar faces one sees when one looks out into an audience. These familiar faces are usually in the section known as the "photo pit." One of these faces belongs to Phil Kamin. He takes photographs. In fact, he takes great photographs. Inside this website is a collection of pictures taken at various concerts with various personnel in various disguises.
